MICHAEL A. SYKES, ESQ.

Mr. Sykes joined Farmer & Associates, PLLC in May, 2016 as an associate after obtaining a Master of Laws in Taxation from University of Florida Levin College of Law. Mr. Sykes maintains a practice in domestic and international tax in the areas of tax controversy, tax compliance (including offshore voluntary disclosures under the various U.S. Internal Revenue Service programs and in-bound foreign investments in U.S. Real Estate Investment Trusts), corporate tax planning and business transactions, and gift and estate tax (including advising trustees on fiduciary administration).

 

Mr. Sykes is a Quadruple Gator with four degrees including his J.D., and his LL.M in Taxation from the University of Florida. While earning his J.D. at the University of Florida, Mr. Sykes was an Executive Board Member of the Florida Moot Court Team where he competed in the CKP Cup and the Duberstein National Bankruptcy Competition. Mr. Sykes was also an Executive Board Member of the Journal of Law and Public Policy, serving as Senior Editor and Assistant Managing Editor during his 2L and 3L years. While attending the Graduate Tax Program at the University of Florida, Mr. Sykes focused his studies on international tax and tax policy, corporate tax and business planning, and gift and estate tax, and he graduated among the top of his class with honors including a Book Award for highest grade in International Tax Planning.

 

Mr. Sykes is a member of the Florida Bar, the Florida Bar Tax Section, the American Bar Association Tax Section, and a Technician member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). Mr. Sykes is admitted to practice law in the State of Florida, and before the United States Tax Court.
